Structured cabling and the network that runs on top of it

The usual arrangement is two suppliers: one pulls the cable, another configures the equipment. It looks like a sensible division of labour until something does not work, and then it becomes a conversation in which the cabling contractor is confident the fault is in the configuration and the network contractor is confident it is in the cable. That conversation is expensive and it is not one you should be having.

We would rather do both. Cabling, containment, terminations and certification, then the switches, firewalls and wireless that run on top — one project, one team, one line of accountability.

• Structured cabling — copper and fibre, containment and routing planned around the building rather than improvised around it.
• Termination and certification — every node terminated, tested and certified, with the results handed over.
• Network design and security — VLANs, PoE, wireless coverage sized to the floor, firewall and VPN.
• CCTV — coverage planned by risk area rather than by camera count, with NVR or DVR and retention sized to match.
• Access control — fingerprint, card or PIN, including time and attendance feeding payroll where that is wanted.
• Server rooms and data centres — racks, power, UPS, cooling and monitoring.
• Workstation and laptop builds — machines that arrive ready to work rather than being configured at a desk.
• Enclosures for the climate — heat, dust and humidity are design inputs on the Red Sea, not afterthoughts.

A cable that carries traffic today is not the same thing as a cable that was installed correctly. The difference shows up months later, intermittently, usually on the link that matters most — and by then the installer has gone and nobody can prove what was done.

Every link we install is tested and certified, patching is labelled, and you receive cable schedules, network diagrams and device configurations at handover. The test we hold ourselves to: if you replaced us tomorrow, the next engineer could pick it up without guessing.

The work divides into three shapes, and they are priced and planned differently.

1. A new office or fit-out Bare walls to working systems. This is where the cost of doing it properly is lowest, because nothing has to be undone first.
2. A site refresh An existing floor that has grown by accretion — each addition made by whoever was on site that week. Usually starts with establishing what is actually installed, as found rather than as previously documented.
3. Multi-building networks Where links between buildings, fibre runs and segmentation matter as much as anything inside a single floor.

An operations floor for a destination management company in Hurghada: twenty positions taken from bare walls to working systems under a single scope. Copper run to every position and terminated into one patch panel and rack, so there is a live port where the work actually happens. Access points sized to the floor, with staff and guest traffic kept on separate networks. CCTV across the office. Their Microsoft 365 tenant was built around the way the operations team runs its day, and every laptop and PC went out enrolled in Intune.
